Would You Buy It?

I just recently found a great blog called "Junker Newbie", who has a fun series called "Would You Buy It Wednesday". According to her blog, she opened up her first antique mall booth in April and I am enjoying seeing her thrift store finds and makeovers. For "Would You Buy It Wednesday", she asks people to post their thrift store finds that they are iffy about or that are especially unique, interesting or even ugly. This is right up my alley! I get stuff all the time and wonder what the heck I'm going to do with it (although I have to say my number of "fails" has started to decrease...I am getting a better sense of what works and what doesn't).

So, here's my entry this week. It is a heavy (and heavily lacquered) 70's looking sconce. I can just picture some guy building this in his garage wood shop. To add to the piece, there is a very thick layer of dust resting inside the sconce, which should be big fun to clean out. **wink**

So, would you have bought this? And, if so, what color would you paint it?

I would have bought it, painted it black and decoupaged one of those cheap battery operated Christmas candlestick lights with song sheet and stuck it in there.( you just take it out of the little plastic gold stand and it fits right in like a taper) In fact I did one similar, lol. Lezlee

Love it! I would probably paint it gray or white & distress.

Also, is the little taper candle holder thing removable at all? if so then that would open up all sorts of possibilities!

Thanks for linking up to my party :-)

At first glance, I thought I probably wouldn't have bought it, but after thinking about decoupage and paint...hmmmm...I think I would buy it, and have fun dressing it up!

I would buy it, beat it up, do a wash of light green paint or walnut stain, and then sand it like crazy!

I probably wouldn't have bought it, but only because I have way too many other projects to do that are similar to this. I do like the ideas from the other commenters! Good luck!!!

I really enjoyed reading all of the ideas about how to handle this sconce. It's like having a great resource catalogue. Whatever this says about me, I would sand and repair it, and paint and "wash" it to go in my foyer. Yes, I would definitely have bought it!
